The County Government of Siaya County, through the Department of Health and Sanitation, today officially launched the upgraded Tingare Health Centre in Ugunja Sub-County and Nyangu Health Centre in Ugenya Sub-County, marking a significant milestone in expanding access to quality primary healthcare services. The launch follows groundbreaking ceremonies held on March 20, 2025 for Tingare Health Centre and December 4, 2025 for Nyangu Health Centre, both presided over by Governor James Orengo and attended by Peter Ndegwa of the Safaricom Foundation.
The projects were implemented through a strategic partnership between the County Government and the Safaricom Foundation under the M-Pesa Foundation programme, reflecting a shared commitment to delivering affordable and accessible healthcare at the grassroots level. The upgrades included the construction of a modern maternity wing and a fully equipped laboratory complex aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes and reducing preventable deaths. Both facilities are now equipped with modern diagnostic equipment, including biochemistry analysers, full haemogram machines, microscopes, and weighing scales. Solar-powered water pumping systems have also been installed to enhance sustainability and lower operational costs.

Speaking during today’s launch, Governor Orengo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening health systems across the county. He emphasized that no woman should lose her life while giving life and urged Community Health Promoters to promote early referrals, maternal clinic attendance, and preventive healthcare practices.
Chief Officer for Health Dr. Omondi Owino called upon the community to fully utilize the upgraded facilities and embrace preventive healthcare services. He encouraged Community Health Promoters (CHPs) to intensify household visits, promote early antenatal clinic attendance, ensure timely referrals, and educate families on the importance of routine immunization and regular health check-ups to maximize the impact of the new investments. He commended healthcare workers for their dedication and called on them to uphold professionalism and compassionate service delivery.
The launch underscores Siaya County’s continued commitment to advancing universal health coverage and ensuring every resident has access to modern, responsive, and high-quality healthcare services. The Governor was accompanied by CS Joseph Ogutu, Chief Officer for Governance, Administration and ICT Walter Okelo, Chief Officer for Health Dr. Omondi Owino and Director of Public Health Dr. Ken Oruenjo.
